Lots of iPod Updates, No 6th Gen Yet
Today, Apple unveiled several new enhancements to their current iPod line. However, the long awaited 6th gen iPod is still in hiding. For the announcements this morning, Steve Jobs revealed 1) a performance update to the current 5G iPod’s 2) a completely remastered iPod Nano line, 3) a brand new iPod Shuffle form factor and 4) a huge update to iTunes with the release of iTunes 7. It will probably take us a while to go through all the news of this morning but for now I want to just touch on the most interesting part: the Nanos.
The new iPod Nano products will all be released in a new aluminum enclosure, similar to the iPod Minis (remember them?). The new cases will also be even smaller than they were originally. 3.5 inches tall, 1.6 inches wide, and only 1/4 inch thick. These guys are crazy thin! The Nanos will also be available in more than two colors and sizes. The 2GB model will be $149 and available only in silver. The 4GB models, however, will be available in silver, lime green, sky blue, and hot pink. These models will be right at $199. Lastly, the 8GB model will be available in Apple’s new elite color, black. The black player will be availabe for $249. I have to say, these new Nanos look pretty slick.
