Gizmodo’s Zune Scoop

Some Gizmodo editors got their grimey hands on the new MP3 player from Microsoft. While we are still waiting for Microsoft to ship us our pre-release review model (please?), we’ll give you a run down on the details that the gizmo’s liked and didn’t.

- The controls are apparently not a scroll wheel as they appear in the pictures. Instead the device simply has a set of four buttons that are positioned in a wheel-like formation.
- The functionality of the interface is similar to Windows Media Center while scrolling and selecting your media choices.
- The back of the player features a grip to hold the player when watching a video sideways, and contains some kind of magnet for a yet to be completed dock.
- The case of the Zune is plastic and semi-transparent.
- FM capability is included. It features both a tuner and a transmitter (cool!) so you can listen to your player through your car’s radio.
- The user interface features white text on colored backgrounds. The gizmo guy even presumes that it could be skinnable. The player features a music visualization or album art while a song is playing.
