Album Art How To #1
I was never really interested in Album art while ripping my CDs to MP3s but viewing the album cover on my ipod video has inspired me to tag each song with the correct album art. Here are some examples of with and without Album art on the ipod.

So lets get on to the details. I decided first to do a google search for album art downloader and came across Album Cover Art Downloader (local) Album Cover Art Downloader Oh did this make my life easy. First thing I did was downloaded and installed the program once it is opened I clicked the open button (first on toolbar, looks like a folder) and browsed to a folder with music in it. I will be demonstrating on a grits album that I have had for years. The first thing that should be done is all the songs should be tagged correctly, meaning that they are labled correcty(in properties). You should get a screen that looks like this.(if you opened a folder with a lot of mp3s it should group each CD together if they are tagged properly)
Next you can double click on the CD you would like to look up first (it should be highlighted blue and have a drop down menu of all the songs), click on a song and it should fill in the artist and the album name. Then just click download covers and hope that the right album cover comes up. And my album art came up correctly.
Now you can either select each song by holding down shift and clicking the last song or click on the main album cover, what you see when nothing is expanded and then click set as cover. It should go in and give each song the correct album cover. Note: if there is more than one ablum that appears after you download album covers, make sure the correct on is clicked before clicking the set as cover button.
Going through all of my cds there was some album art that this program did not find. This will be discussed in a later post. Now to test with Itunes and make sure the album art was loaded correctly.
There will be more tutorials to come!

[…] 3. Now we are ready to go find our music on our ipod. After hidden files are visible, you should see a new folder in your ipod. The folder name is Ipod_Control, and should look greyed out. Note: All hidden folders are greyed out, in order to distinguish hidden files from non-hidden files. Enter the Ipod_Control folder and click on the Music folder. here you should see a bunch of folders that have F00, F01, F02, ect… in each folder is about 50-70 songs or so. If you click on one of the folders you can open up and see that your music is there. The only problem with this music is that it is all renamed to random letters and numbers which I will get back to. If you want to back up your whole ipod which is recomended if you have the diskspace then select all the folders and copy them to a folder on your computer. This will take a little while to do so you may want to do it when you do not need your computer for a while. If you coppied the folders we will have to unhide them first. Do that by selecting all of the folders, and right clicking them and go to the option Properties. Make sure read-only and hidden are both NOT clicked all to change for all folders and subfolders and files. Once this is done walla you have all your music. Now if you were to drag all those funny named songs into a media player such as win-amp you will see winamp slowly change all the random.mp3 files into the songs you know are there. Basically the way winamp knows your music is because embedded in the mp3 file is a ID tag, which displays song title, albulm, artist, and even album art (a tutorial of how to get album art into each mp3.) Great post. I?ll think about that.
Thanks for hosting the file locally: ‘cos the author’s site has gone down it’s nearly impossible to find.
Just to echo - thanks for hosting a great little app - seem to be the only place on the net it’s still available.
Thumbs up:
[…] Though the release date is not determined let’s discuss what we hope for. Of course now that the iPhone has been released with all its features surely some of these will be migrating to the 6th Generation iPod. 1. We hope for High-res, 3.5-inch screen Ok so this is what we expect when we here 6th Generation iPod you have seen the mock-ups, videos, and even patents which reveal what people really want with this. Lets just hope they don’t skimp out and give us less screen than we want! 2. We hope for a small price The iPhone at a whopping $499 (4GB) & $599 (8GB) makes it hard for the younger generation to enjoy these beauties. For the 6th Generation iPod to be successful the price will need to be low. The price range that is now ruling the 5th Generation iPod is now $249 (30GB) & $349.00 (60GB). If this price range is followed the 6th Generation iPod will be an even hotter item. 3. We hope for Coverflow Ok if you have not seen or used cover flow you have not lived. This feature, though it has been overlooked will be what drives the 6th Generation iPod. This being said, cover art will be a must have going forth! For those of who who may have ripped their entire CD collections before they had an iPod, may have never looked at or worried about cover art. If you fall into this category a tutorial has been written how to batch upload cover art to mp3 files, more on this to come. See cover flow on the iphone 4. We hope for Wifi. There have been many rumors about the 6th Generation iPod having wifi enabled. This would allow users to share music potentially even over the iPhone. This would also allow Apple to catch up with the Microsoft’s Zune which can wirelessly share music with other Zune owners which I found to be far and few. With a product such as the iPod with all its popularity this would be huge! […]
Already knew about the app, just couldn’t find it because the authors site is gone. Thanks a million for hosting it here! It really is a great little program.
Thanks for mirroring the file.
I am glad to find this stuff for a long time already. I have been searching the net for this and I failed most of the time so for now I will surely bookmark your site.
Nice Ressource. I’ll stumble this!
Man invented language to satisfy his deep need to complain.
I downloaded the software, got all my cover art, but I can’t get it into iTunes or my ipod. When I try following your directions, nothing is as you describe. When I click on my music folder, nothing happens and there are no foldres with music. I have iTunes 7 and an ipod nano with software version 1.1, which is the latest version. However my iTunes doesn’t look like yours in the picture (there’s no “burn disc” in the upper right-hand corner). I’d appreciated any help anyone could give. Thanks.
